Brachioplasty is typically an outpatient procedure performed under local or general anesthesia. The incision is commonly placed along the inside, or sometimes the bottom, of the upper arm. Excess skin is then surgically removed, and liposuction may also be performed to eliminate pockets of excess fat that could be contributing to the aesthetic concerns. The procedure is then mirrored on the other arm to achieve proper balance and symmetry.

If your treatment plan includes additional body contouring treatments, it may be recommended to combine certain procedures at the same time as your arm lift.

Patients usually experience some degree of soreness, swelling, bruising, and discomfort near the incisions immediately after surgery. By following the proper post-procedure recovery instructions and taking prescribed medications, these side effects can often be managed well until they begin to dissipate on their own in the days and weeks after surgery. Patients are advised to elevate their arms, use cold compresses, and wear a surgical wrap or compression garment to protect the incisions and reinforce the new contours during recovery.

Generally, patients should allow one to two weeks to fully rest and recuperate, as well as limit arm movement for at least two weeks and avoid exercise for at least four weeks. Most patients notice an aesthetic improvement immediately after surgery but should wait until the swelling fully subsides to see their final arm lift results.
